At R.A. Mitchell Elementary we are committed to helping the environment. We do that by recycling PDA's, iPods, cell phones, video games and game consoles, digital cameras, inkjet and laser cartridges, and laptops. Here are a few facts about recycling you may not know.

  • Every year 300 million cartridges end up in landfills worldwide.
  • Almost 8 cartridges are thrown away in the U.S. every second. That is almost 700,000 cartridges per day.
  • It takes almost 3.5 quarts of oil to produce one laser cartridge. That is almost a gallon of ice cream!
  • A half a gallon of oil is saved each time a laser cartridge is remanufactured.
  • A cartridge takes at least 1,000 years to decompose.
  • On average, Americans purchase a new cell phone every 18 months.
  • It is estimated that 500 million phones could be headed for our landfills if they are not recycled.

Please do your part and help us make EVERYDAY Earth Day! Since August, our school, with the help of parents and our community, has recycled 428 items!
